Four major application areas - Find the right UMS RF semiconductor solution for your project needs

Defense & Electronic Warfare

UMS MMICs are widely used in defense and electronic warfare systems, including phased-array radar, electronic countermeasures (ECM), radar warning receivers (RWR), and software-defined radio (SDR). Key requirements include high output power, wide bandwidth, and operation across extended temperature ranges (-55°C to +85°C).

Frequency Bands

  • S-band (2-4 GHz)
  • C-band (4-8 GHz)
  • X-band (8-12 GHz)
  • Ku/K/Ka-band (12-40 GHz)

Key Technologies

  • GaAs pHEMT (0.15μm / 0.25μm)
  • GaN-on-SiC (high power)
  • Multi-chip modules (MCM)

Space & Satellite Communications

UMS space-grade MMICs are listed on the ESA European Preferred Parts List (EPPL) and qualified to ESCC 22900/23200 standards. Products cover LEO satellite payloads, deep space exploration, GPS/GNSS receivers, and satcom user terminals. Southwest Microwave's low-outgassing certified connectors complement UMS chips for complete space-ready RF chains.

Frequency Bands

  • L/S-band (1-4 GHz)
  • C/Ku-band (4-18 GHz)
  • Ka-band (26-40 GHz)
  • Q/V-band (40-75 GHz)

Certifications

  • ESA EPPL listed
  • ESCC 22900/23200
  • NASA/ESA low outgassing

Telecom Infrastructure

With the rollout of 5G and preparations for 6G, RF front-end components must deliver higher frequency operation, wider bandwidth, and improved power efficiency. UMS GaAs and GaN MMICs address these needs for base station transceivers, backhaul links, and small-cell deployments. Frequency coverage extends from sub-6 GHz through E-band (71-86 GHz) for millimeter-wave backhaul.

Applications

  • 5G NR base stations
  • mmWave backhaul (E-band)
  • Small cell & repeater
  • Massive MIMO

Key Features

  • High linearity (IP3 > 30 dBm)
  • Wide bandwidth (GHz-GHz)
  • High power-added efficiency

Test & Measurement

Precision test and measurement equipment demands components with exceptional repeatability, low noise, and wide frequency coverage. UMS MMICs are used in spectrum analyzers, signal generators, vector network analyzers, and OTA test systems from DC to 110 GHz. Southwest Microwave's precision connectors and calibration kits ensure accurate measurements across the full frequency range.

Applications

  • Spectrum analyzers
  • Vector network analyzers
  • Signal generators
  • OTA test chambers

Frequency Coverage

  • DC to 110 GHz (W-band)
  • 1.0mm / 1.35mm / 1.85mm interfaces
  • NIST-traceable calibration
